What seemed to be a successful night ended very quickly for Welcome native Zach Brewer. Brewer, who comes to Bowman Gray Stadium with big goals, just comes up short with having no luck.

During practice, the Vestal Buick GMC Chevrolet had mechanical problems. “In the corner, the car would shut off but in the straightaway’s, we were fine,” says spotter Justin Link. But even with this adversity on Brewer’s shoulders, he managed to qualify a 13.636, which put him in 11th. After the re-draw, Brewer would start 16th.

Minutes before the green flag dropped, Brewer and his crew scrambled together to find out what was wrong with the car. They even went all the way to his shop to get another carburetor and put it on this car. With minutes left to spare, Brewer had his car back together. If the changes they made did not work, it would be a long night of racing. And it was Brewer.

On the first lap, Brewer got caught up in an accident in turn four. Brewer, who was not the cause of the accident, was still put to the back. When the “cone” was put out, Brewer decided to go to the outside. Using strategy, Zach dodged a wreck on lap eight, which put him back into the top ten. Again, taking the outside cone, Brewer was caught behind # 72 of Brent Elliott.

After laps of trailing behind, Brewer hit the wall coming out of turn two. “We touched tires. It was racing. I guess when it rains, it pours,” says Brewer.

After an eventful day, Zach Brewer finished 21st. “I’d like to thank all of my fans for supporting me. It has been a year of bad luck.”

Zach’s next race will be at Caraway Speedway on Friday July 2nd with the Whelen Southern Modified Tour. To learn more about Zach Brewer and his modified effort, please contact Jordan Way at zachbrewerracing@yahoo.com.

Zach Brewer had the car and determination to win at Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday night. Once again, he didn’t have the luck to do it.

“We have got a lot to overcome from last week’s race,” says Brewer, who was involved in a wreck with Ryan Preece in the second modified race last weekend.

Brewer wanted to give his fans what they wanted. Qualifying in 11th position, Brewer set his eyes on the front. With several cautions during the race, Brewer managed to finish 8th.

In the second modified race, Brewer started in the 3rd. “The car felt good. On the restart, I spun down the whole front stretch.” Thinking his luck had changed, Brewer managed to keep his car in 3rd position for nine laps.

On lap nine, Rupert Sink and Brewer got into each other. Under caution, Brewer had to come into the pits and had to change tires. “The car was loose but he had no right to take me out.”

Brewer managed to miss other accidents throughout the remainder of the race. He finished 12th in the second race. “Next week, we’re going to come back and win more races. I do not hold any grudges towards them. Things happen. It’s racing.”

Brewer will be back at Bowman Gray Stadium on June 19, 2010 for the Renegade 100. To find out more information on Zach Brewer and his modified effort, please contact Jordan Way at zachbrewerracing@yahoo.com.

Zach Brewer headed to Sunday’s Made In America Whelen 200 at Martinsville Speedway with high intentions. After three years of bad luck, it seemed as if Zach would have more luck on his side and could break the bad luck. Brewer, once again, had back luck.

“Our past three outings at Martinsville have been rough and we have yet to make it past fifty laps,” said Brewer.

When the green flag dropped, Brewer set his sights on the front of the pack. “I felt that we had a car very capable of finishing in the top ten. We came from twenty-second to twelfth in twenty laps with all passes on the outside.” Brewer’s hopes to make it to the front ended quickly as the fuel pump broke when a caution came out on lap twenty.

“We will not hang our heads at all. We made great gains on the car after struggling with a tight race car in practice all weekend. We will be back again. This place has so much history. I love racing with some of the best modified drivers there is. I cannot give up on that grandfather clock,” Brewer jokes.

Brewer will head to Bowman Gray Stadium this Saturday for twin 25-lap Modified races. Brewer’s next appearance with the Whelen Southern Modified Tour will be at Caraway Speedway on Friday July 2.
